Hi,

Sorry this is in English as I don't know how to key in Chineses but I can read Chinese.

I would like to get a better desktop stereo system for my computer so I can enjoy the music when I do my work home. So far, I have a pair of powered speakers from AudioEngine, Audioengine 2, http://www.audioengineusa.com/a2_home.php, which connects to Asus Xonar U1 Audio Station, http://www.asus.com.tw/products.aspx?l1=25&l2=147, connecting to PC via USB.

Well, the sound quality as we can expect is not that good. The bass seems to be a little too heavy and muggy. I am considering replacing Asus Xonar with KECES's DA-151. Can I do the following, PC -(USB)-> DA-151 -> A2 powered speakers?

一開始看到一大串英文和兩個連結，以為是廣告機器人入侵


DA151 -> A2可以用RCA TO RCA的線來接~

直接接上去就可以了，不過我只有聽過KECES UAB Ver1.2

算是DA151的前x代吧，用OP604的話，不會有BASS太重的問題，聲音略偏解析...

或許跟你的A2可以互補

新的DA151我就沒聽過了

Care to state your budget?

Chances are, you would get a more apparent upgrade in terms of sonic performance by getting a new pair of speakers;
while it is true that the DAC/source you use makes a difference, the speakers you use will have a greater influence on the overall performance of your system.

Regarding budget, I am OK to spend up to NT 20K for the USB based DAC and the powered speakers. The reasons I would like to replace USB based DAC are (1) according to review in "Stereophile", http://www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/1207ae/, Audioengine 2 seems to be a good choice for desktop; (2) when I connected my "HeadRoom Total BitHead", http://www.headphone.com/products/headp ... bile-line/, to Auidoengine 2, the bass sounds bad but "HeadRoom Total BitHead" with Sennheiser HD 595 works perfect. I realized that "HeadRoom Total BitHead" is an headphone amp which might compensate bass for headphone.

At the same time, the position of those speakers _MIGHT_ cause my problem too. As it is on the desktop and about 2 to 3 feet away from me as I sit and use computer. So, as the speakers and me are in a triangle with same length (2 to 3 feet) on each side, I might _NOT_ be able to have the speakers in enough volume (power) to work. I tried to sit back about 6 feet away from the speakers and have bigger volume, it sounds much better: bass is punch and solid. Looks like the speakers is not a real desktop one, in stead it is a bookshelf one, and I need to move speakers out of my desk to position them right. Gee, that would be too much trouble. Any advices/suggestions on this?

With a budget of ~$600 USD, you have a lot of choices.
The simple solution would be something like the Focal XS. Priced at $599 but you can find it online for $500 shipped within US.



Or the Axiom Audiobyte (They have 30-day in-home trial program.)



Or you can get an entry level audiophile setup, like the Cambridge 540A v2 amp or some used Creek/Rega/Naim/Arcam...etc with Ascend CBM 170SE/EPOS ELS3/PSB...etc.

If it's me, I might get a good 2A3 SET amp with a bookshelf speaker with 90+ sensitivity and a nice tweeter.
